A large pair of giltwood overmantels in the French Régence style. Beautifully water gilded, these mirrors have finely carved pediments with trailing foliage and ornate central cartouches. These are mounted above the gently arched mirror plates, which are bordered by low relief foliate decoration.

A rare and beautiful Chinese export table with extensive mother of pearl inlay. The tripod table is carved from walnut, and the fiery mother of pearl is most likely abalone shell, with a beautiful opalescence that changes with the light, bringing the decoration of flowers, mons and butterflies bordering a central battle scene, to life.

A charming early 18th century giltwood landscape overmantle mirror. The mirror has a boldly carved frame, the egg and dart moulding surrounded by oak leaves and acorns, and the mirror plate being framed by further foliate carving in low relief.

The silvered plate is an old, but later replacement.

A rare set of six William and Mary high-backed dining chairs in oak. This fine set of chairs is a provincial example of the walnut chairs with caned backs that were popularised in the late 17th century. This set of chairs is a remarkable survival, with no damage to their pedimented panelled backs, finials, scrollwork front rails and turned legs.
Originally, they might have had squab cushions for added comfort, and we can have these made for you if desired.

An elegant French Rococo Louis XV chimneypiece in a marble akin to St Anne's or grigio carnico, the mottled dove grey marble with white veining. The serpentine shelf rests above the frieze of the same form, centred by a scallop cartouche. This is supported by console jambs over plain footblocks.

A rare and complete Victorian twelve place Minton dinner service, with cobalt blue foliate decoration; hand coloured in orange with gilt edges. The finials to the covers of the tureens are in the form of figs set upon fig leaves, finished in cobalt and gold. Verso each piece has printed and impressed marks for Minton.

This service is complete and consists of, 12 soup bowls 12 large dinner plates, 12 small dinner plates, 12 side plates, 5 serving plates of various sizes, 1 large soup tureen with stand, cover and ladle, 2 vegetable tureens with covers, 1 sauce tureen with stand, cover and ladle and 1 gravy boat and stand.

An enchanting 18th century French Aubusson Tapestry of a pastoral theme. This finely woven tapestry is mid-18th century in date, and embodies the popular Chinoiserie style of the period, with a landscape reminiscent of an Eastern paradise, dotted with palm trees, a pagoda, a parrot and a stork. This is bordered by a traditional Aubusson border, with scrolling foliage and flowers.

A fine verdure tapestry fragment with a floral and foliate border. This tapestry was once part of a much larger mythological composition. What remains is a beautifully woven wooded scene with a distant country house, whilst in the foreground, the messenger God Mercury or Hermes, points to the unknown.

An exceptional Renaissance Revival fireplace in limestone of monumental proportions. This fireplace is richly carved, with a deep cornice mounted above the frieze, which in turn is carved with scrolling oak leaves and centred by a boldly figured cartouche. This rests on the finely carved acanthus corbel jambs, which are finished with a stop-fluted detail.

A pair of bronze Pixiu figures. These mythical creatures emerged from Chinese folklore and are believed to be guardians of good fortune and wealth. They are depicted as creatures with the head of a dragon and the body of a lion.

An ornate Italian Rococo style Carrara marble fireplace. This fireplace has a serpentine shelf resting over flat jambs which are carved with scallop shells and trailing convolvulus. These flank the deep central frieze, which is centred by a large cartouche and further trailing vines.

An exceptional eight branch crystal chandelier by Baccarat. A celebration of skilled glassblowing, this chandelier has a central stem of twisted form, which is echoed by the swan neck arms. The whole is hung with faceted beats and prismatic drops.
This chandelier still comes with its original certificate of authenticity dated to 1978.

French, c.1970.

Notes: Baccarat was founded in 1764 by Royal Decree in the town of the same name, to counter the influx of fine glassware from Bohemia. The company first manufactured mirrors and stemware, but branched out to chandeliers and crystal glass making. Their name is synonymous with the finest quality crystal and the firm still manufacture glassware today.

A magnificent pair of enormous 17th century limestone capitals. Once, these capitals would have graced the grand doorway of stone building, being raised high above eye level and perhaps supporting a grand pediment. Now, they are raised on the original column bases. The capitals loosely conform to the composite order, with acanthus leaves carved at their base and the torsos of four fauns bearing the weight of the abacus, each side centred by the mask of a putto.

Notes: These capitals have at some point been used as the base for a console table, with two flat pieces of newer stone fitted to their tops. We can make a top for these capitals in our workshops if desired.

A pair of large biscuit porcelain plaques after Thorvaldsen's iconic 'Night and Day' reliefs. Thorvaldsen was Denmark's greatest cultural export during the 18th and 19th centuries, despite spending most of his career in Italy. His 'Night and Day' reliefs were first modelled in Rome in 1815 in marble and were very well-received, and high quality copies in porcelain were hugely sought after.
‘Night’ is represented by a winged female, crowned with poppy seed heads and bearing in her arms two children who symbolise Sleep and Death. An owl flies beside them. ‘Day’ is shown scattering flowers and carrying a winged boy with a flaming torch to represent the sun.

These particular copies were made in the 19th century by the Royal Copenhagen factory. The factory was founded in 1775 and produced copies of well regarded sculptures in twice-fired biscuit porcelain.

An exceptional pair of large alabaster lidded vases in the manner of Lorenzo Bartolini (1777-1850). The lidded urns of baluster form, are finely carved from translucent alabaster the body of the vase depicting classical scenes, the lids topped with a fruiting finial, resting on the slender everted necks with egg and dart rim.
Italian, c.1820, with restorations.

Notes: Lorenzo Bartolini was born in Tuscany and studied in Florence and at the Officina Inghirami in Volterra, a workshop established in 1791 which produced alabaster sculpture and objects in the neoclassical style for Grand Tourist and other wealthy patrons. In 1797 he moved to Paris, where he became a close friend of Ingres and the favoured sculptor of Napoléon, who sent him to Carrara in 1807 to direct the Academy of Sculpture. Later he settled in Florence, where his Grand Tour patrons included Thomas Hope and the 6th Duke of Devonshire.

Lorenzo Bartolini began his career on high quality decorative urns and tazzi for visiting grand tourists. A series of 19 sketches with designs for such vases was published.

A solid brass Dutch chandelier of baluster form, issuing five swan neck branches with broad drop pans. A classic example of the style, this chandelier has a large orb which beautifully reflects the light given from the bulbs.

A pair of supremely elegant and tall bronze lamps with flambeau shades. The classically draped female figures have laurel wreaths in their hair, one carrying a scroll and the other a lyre, standing beneath a foliate canopy and a galleried flambeau shade.

A charming cut glass and brass chandelier issuing six elegant branches. Suspended from an acanthus corona by diamond shaped chain joined with loops and strung with faceted drops, the body of the chandelier comprises a brass hoop and a glass bowl, surrounded by the slender arms; hung with further drops and beads and topped with baluster shaped candle holders.

Notes: the city of Kashan in Iran has a long history of carpet making. It was producing fine wool and silk carpets from the 16th century onwards. The yare characterised by their tight weave, high knot density and fine pattern.

A very fine Régence game or centre table with an inset marble occhio di pavone top. The top is a wonderfully fossiliferous black marble speckled with white fossils. The giltwood table is carved with strapwork and a foliate clasp, on lappet-carved cabriole legs issuing foliate sprays raised on hoof feet.

A large and important Louis XV fireplace in fleur de pêcher marble, almost certainly inspired by those found at the Palace of Versailles. Carved from the most wonderful violet pink fleur de pêcher, it embraces the Rococo style popularised by Louis XV and his palace; with a serpentine form and glorious ormolu rocaille and figurative mounts in the manner of Jacques Caffiéri and his work at Versailles.

A rare 19th century wooden armorial cartouche of shield form, beautifully painted with Bristol's Civic Arms, and the motto "Virtute et Industria" or By Virtue and Industry. This motto and the arms were adopted by the city in the 16th century, and represents the city's maritime heritage and industry. This is a wonderfully decorated cartouche, akin to the hatchments found in churches, but likely to have been displayed in an important civic building, such as the city hall.
