A pair of finely painted Japanese imari vases with covers. The vases are hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue and onglaze enamels, highlighted in gold, with a high degree of naturalism, with vignettes of landscapes bordered by floral decoration. The covers are mounted with foo dog finials.

A well proportioned, Louis XV Rococo fireplace in subtly mottled Carrara marble. The serpentine paneled frieze is centred by a foliate cartouche flanked by shell endblock over scrolling console jambs, all set beneath the moulded serpentine shelf.

An exceptionally fine Brazilian rosewood and lacquer cabinet bookcase incorporating a suite of five chinoiserie lacquered panels. It is most likely that this piece of furniture was designed as a celebration of Eastern influence on European furniture making. The japanned panels depict mountainous landscapes, figures riding through the landscape, pagodas and boats against a deep red ground. The style is reminiscent of 17th century Chinese lacquerwork, although certainly made in England by a specialist japanner. Lacquerwork of this quality was highly prized, so we believe this piece of furniture was designed around the panels, with a nod to Chinese forms, namely the four pagoda finials to the top. The rest of the cabinet embodies the elegant restraint of the Regency period, with a serpentine backboard, and three doors enclosed a fitted interior.
The fine interior includes adjustable shelves and a drop down writing slope in tooled green leather, which reveals pigeonholes in birdseye maple. The ormolu mounts are synonymous with the work of Bond Street cabinetmaker George Oakley (c.1760–1840) and the use of fine rosewood, and excellent construction, are all signatures of his work.

A pretty Victorian Aesthetic movement gilded and ebonised writing desk or bonheur du Jour. The top with an ebonised balustrade of turned spindles above a pair of doors with hand painted panels, framed by gilt mouldings and Amboyna wood. The panels depict a pair of medieval loves exchanging love notes by dove, on an architectural Gothic background. Opening the doors reveals a delicate interior in birch and satin birch, with fretwork valencing and further fretwork to the front of the letter rack, over two rosewood draws with flush boxwood knobs. The draw to the base contains an adjustable, tooled leather writing slope and to the right, a pen holder and the original glass inkwell. All supported on slender ebonised, carved and gilded turned legs, with ceramic casters, separated by a stretcher and shelf.

A very large late sixteenth century 'Nonsuch' chest with extensive marquetry and original hinges and lock. This vast chest conforms to the 'Nonsuch' model, with dovetailed boards and marquetry inspired by the architectural prints of the period. Extant examples of these chests are very rare, so we are delighted to have it one our collection.

English, late 16th century with separate 17th century base.

Notes: Chests such as these were sometimes thought to have been made in Germany, but it is now known that they were made in London - particularly Southwark - by German and Netherlandish immigrants from about 1560. In the twentieth century, these chests gained the name of 'Nonsuch chests' as the marquetry was wrongly thought to depict Henry VIII's Nonsuch Palace in Surrey.

A very fine single door Victorian, ebonized, ormolu and inlaid pier or side cabinet. The single glazed door is flanked by a pair of turned, ebonised columns with ormolu Corinthian capitals, supporting the frieze. Which is finely and profusely inlaid in the Italianate manner with Amboyna and Box on a Harewood ground with further ormolu detail. The interior retains its original, now pleasantly faded plush, this is fitted with two shelves, finished with Harewood and Box edging. All set beneath a generously moulded Amboyna and Harewood top.

A large coopered, quartered oak and bronze bound log bin, with bronze and wood bar handles and a makers' label for R A Lister & Co.

R. A. Lister and company was founded by Robert Ashton Lister (1845-1927) in 1867 in Dursley, Gloucestershire. The company produced a wide range of agricultural machinery and in 1897 the Dursley Pedersen cycle. In 1909 the company introduced its first petrol engine into its range of products; these versatile engines became the mainstay of the company until it introduced a range of diesel engines in 1929. These were used to power electric generators, pumps and Listers' other newly introduced products such as its sheep shearing machines. Such was the demand for its products that in 1909 its Victoria works had to be extended.

Robert Aston Lister took a keen interest in the wellbeing of his workforce, for example he closed the whole works in 1910 and chartered a train to take his workers for a day out at the seaside at Weston-Super-Mare; this trip was to be repeated on several occasions in the following years. Over time the company diversified further to produced among other things Rail Auto trucks, dairy equipment and wooden products like butter churns, pales, log bins and the classic Teak park bench. Now Lister-Petter, the company concentrates on Diesel engines and generators, the sheep shearing business is now a separate company. Although the production of many of R.A.Listers models ceased many years ago many are still in daily use all over the world.

A very beautiful and dramatic French giltwood and Gesso wall mirror. The mirror is surmounted by a foliate crest centred by a mask, and flanked by two putti holding floral garlands. This is mounted over the frame which is modelled in high relief with scrolling foliage. The cushioned frame encloses marginal plates hand engraved with stars, which border the original mirror plate, now very foxed.

A heavily enriched Regency card table in flame mahogany and inlaid with brass. The foldover top with a baize interior rests over a beautifully carved and inlaid frieze which in turn is mounted on a tapering square baluster raised on a concave quadripartite base with floral paterae and reeded scroll legs terminating in brass caps on castors.

A pair of early 19th century hall chairs in a rich mahogany. The crisply carved, scrolling backs are centred by a hand-painted armorial over the plain seats and turned legs.
The armorial is unidentified, but the same emblem has been used for the Tell family in the early 19th century.

A rare 17th century Japanese blue and white vase dating to the early Edo Period (1603-1868). This vase is surviving evidence of the collaborative nature of porcelain decoration between Japan and the Netherlands in this period. The Dutch East India Company was known to occasionally export unfinished porcelain to be finished in the Netherlands in the 'oriental style'.
A piece of export ware, this vase was decorated in Japan in blue and white, with the intention of further Imari style decoration in enamels being added once it arrived in the Netherlands. It is extraordinarily rare to find partially decorated pieces such as these. Perhaps the firing cracks present made it impossible to re-fire with the enamels, and so remained undecorated. Examples of this practice can be found in the Metropolitan Museum and the British Museum.

Notes: During the early Edo period, the Dutch and Chinese were the only nations able to trade with Japan, as their shogun had imposed a policy of strict isolation. A small number of Dutch merchants were permitted to reside on an island outside Nagasaki, close to the Arita porcelain kilns and Imari port. The Dutch exposed the Japanese ceramicists to Chinese blue underglaze porcelain, and this technique was absorbed into the Japanese oeuvre and its influence can be seen in this vase.

A very fine and elegant antique crystal chandelier. Comprising 8 swan neck arms mounted on the baluster column, each with a scalloped drip pan hung with prismatic drops. The lower arms are also strung with beads and faceted pear-shaped drops.

A pair of 'a berettino' ground Venetian maiolica albarelli of dumbbell shape, painted with dark blue flowers, oak leaves, berries and other foliage against a paler blue ground, the waisted middles painted with scrolls inscribed 'V DA CANTVS ne', which roughly translates to ''give me a song and perhaps alludes to this jar once containing a tincture for the throat and EL ELESCOF', which is a term found in medical texts, thought to mean a topical salve.

Italy, Venice, mid-17th century.

Notes: 'A berettino' albarelli were characterised by their distinctive lavender-blue or pale blue tin glaze, often decorated with dark blue, white, or ochre floral, leafy, or armorial motifs. Primarily produced in Venice, Faenza, or Rome, these waisted apothecary jars often feature Latin inscriptions and were used for storing medicine.

A sixteenth century seated bronze Buddha with traces of the original gilding. Over the centuries, this devotional figure has acquired the most magnificent patina. The figure conforms to the Chien Seng style, which emerged from China in the 3rd century. This saw the Buddhist iconography shift from Indian models to encompass the Chinese decorative style and also Daoist and Confuscion ideals. Seated in virasana with his right hand in bhumisparshamudra and wearing the Buddhist monastic robes known as samghati, his face has been modelled with a serene expression.

A rare and grand antique columned Irish Regency Chimneypiece in a terracotta hued petit-tor marble. The slender and wide shelf rests over the undulating frieze, which is framed by cushioned rectangular endblocks. These in turn, are supported by slender freestanding Tuscan columns, which stand forward of the flat fronted jambs with reeded edges.

A pair of salt glazed pottery models of the Warwick vase, each resting on classical square plinths. Perfect for display both indoors and out.

The Warwick vase was a Roman marble vase discovered by Gavin Hamilton at Hadrian's Villa in 1771, where he had sought and was given permission to excavate the marshes on the site, where it was discovered in need of restoration. It was sold to Sir William Hamilton, who passed it to his nephew Sir George Greville, 2nd Earl of Warwick, where it was placed in the gardens of Warwick castle. It now resides in the Burrell collection, Glasgow.

A mid-Victorian Gothic Revival giltwood and gesso overmantel mirror of triptych form, in the manner of Charles Bevan, the arched ballshot pediment above chamfered pilasters terminating in corinthian capitals. The two painted panels are in the medieval manner.

A pair of English stained, painted and leaded glass windows. Very much taking their cue from the Pre-Raphaelite movement, the design for these windows harks back to the medieval period, in both the composition and the dress of the subjects. The twin scene depicts the seasons, spring and autumn, with a woman admiring the blossom on a tree, whilst the man gathers wheat with a scythe.

At present, these are framed for display but could easily be fitted as a window.

A charming mid-19th century Venetian wall mirror with original gilding. This giltwood and gesso mirror embodies the naturalism so celebrated in the Rococo period, with a scrolling foliate surmount, enclosing a frame decorated with further foliate flourishes in low relief.

A very beautiful 18th century Dutch delft five piece garniture, comprising three baluster lidded vases with parrot finials and two trumpet vases. Each vase is beautifully hand-painted with pastoral vignettes featuring musicians, and these scenes are surrounded by foliate and floral boarders. On the verso, ythe set is simply decorated with floral sprays. As to be expected from Delft of this period, there are small chips and losses.
