A fine 18th century giltwood console table. The gilded surface is wonderfully worn, with the warm red bole coming through. The frieze has low relief decoration very much aligned with the Venetian tradition, and this frames the faux marble top (later). The scrolled legs are supported by large baluster feet and united by a scrollwork stretcher embellished with bellflowers.

Northern Italian, c.1700.

The current top, painted in a green faux marble finish, can be replaced with your choice of marble top if desired, although the current top is quite charming and probably 19th century in date.

A large and grand Victorian cast iron fire surround of elaborate design. The stepped moulded shelf, with a fine enriched undershelf and fluted panel, rests above an arched frieze with a central shield cartouche flanked by opposing dragons. The jambs adorned with bold scrolled consoles supported on sturdy footblocks. English, circa 1870.

A beautiful 18th century Venetian mirror with original mercury mirror plate. The gilded frame takes a loosely organic form and interprets the French Rococo style, with a rather more traditional frame boldly embellished with the addition of organic c scrolls and foliate flourishes to the edges.

A large and grand Gothic Revival chimneypiece carved from Belgian blue stone. The deeply moulded cornice shelf rests on the monumental frieze, which is carved from one large piece of stone. This is decorated with a crisply rendered central crest and coat of arms, with the motto "ex-fide-fortis" (from faith comes strength), this is flanked by a pair of floral paterae in the form of roses beneath arching tracery and foliate decoration, on a heavily tooled ground. This sits on slender Gothic console jambs, over moulded footblocks.

Belgian, circa 1890.

The weight of this fireplace requires careful structural consideration.

A pair of small, pleasantly distressed Victorian Aesthetic period wall mirrors, with the diamond registration mark for 1878. Each gilt and ebonised frame is decorated with painted stylised foliage, fruit and flowers in the typically Aesthetic movement style. The central painted tablet at the top of the frame sits below a pediment which is flanked by a balustrade and painted frieze, all topped off with turned finials.

A fine George III period mahogany silver table, in the manner of Thomas Chippendale. This table has a beautiful colour and patina, the figured mahogany rectangular top with plain gallery is set over a finely pierced fretwork frieze and spandrels of scrolling acanthus leaf, supported on square legs with block feet, which retain their original brass castors, these are separated by the arching, x-form fretwork stretcher, decorated with further scrolling acanthus leaf decoration, all centred with a single turned finial.

A very fine Adam Revival pine chimneypiece from the Edwardian period. The shelf, with its dentil undershelf is mounted over the beautifully carved frieze, studded with ram's heads hung with garlands of bellflowers. The slender jambs are carved with urns and more bellflowers. The opening is framed by a simple bead and reel moulding. This fireplace would accommodate a set of marble slips very nicely.

A fine and large profusely decorated French gilt gesso overmantel mirror in the Rococo taste. The deeply moulded arched frame is carved with floral and foliate motifs in low relief, and encloses the original bevelled plate. The pediment is boldly carved with foliate c-scrolls and floral embellishment, centred by a stylised shell.

An antique marble fountain in the Baroque style, with a tripartite dolphin base each with a water spout in their mouths, their tails supporting the generous lobed bowl, which is topped a putto clutching a dolphin, designed to be seen through the cascade of water with the top spout above. A fine neoclassical chimneypiece of excellent proportions, carved from a pure white statuary marble and inlaid with panels of warm Spanish brocatelle marble. The reeded shelf rests over frieze of panelled brocatelle, set with a finely carved neoclassical tablet very much in the Adam style, carved with an urn and opposing sphynxes, and hung with bellflowers. The endblocks are carved with more slender covered urns and rest above the wide jambs, also set with brocatelle and enclosing the reeded slip bordering the opening. A very elegant late Georgian piece, anticipating the simple elegance of the Regency period.

A small and very charming 19th century fire basket with an ornate Dutch fireback. The fireback depicts The Fox and the Stork, one of Aesop's fables, at the moment in which the stork has his revenge, serving supper to the fox in a long narrow vessel, after the fox had invited him to dine with him, serving the food in shallow bowls from which the stork couldn't eat. The moral is to not play tricks on others unless you wish for them to do the same in return. This charming fireback is mounted on an Aesthetic Movement fire grate, with ornate front bars, and allium bud form finials.

A large and handsome bronze and cast iron enclosed fire basket. The large grate with integral flue connection is set beneath a domed and panelled bronze canopy, centred with a ribbon tied garland of fruit, above scrolling supports and a pierced front apron, all raised on turned cast iron supports.

This type of enclosed fire basket with integral flue connection is ideal for use with fire surrounds with large openings and or small chimney flues, as the basket is connected directly to the flue in the same way as a stove.

A large Victorian Kilkenny marble arched fireplace with star decoration. This large and grand fireplace is carved from a striking black Kilkenny marble, with white fossils dramatically set against a black background. The large moulded shelf rest on the generous spandrel jambs with chamfered corners, carved with a Star of David decoration, which flanks the keystone of cartouche form, mounted above the generously moulded arched opening.

A pair of fine and large 19th century copies of the Sosibios vase by Handyside & Co in cast iron, with associated stone bases. These copies of the Greek krater were originally retailed by the Handyside foundry at £4 in 1880.

Notes:
This cast iron urn is modelled on a white marble urn from antiquity by Sosibios, a Greek sculptor working in Rome around 50 BC. An English version of the model was later in the 1874 catalogue of A. Handyside and Co. of Derby and London. A set of four painted cast-iron urns of this model sold at Christie's Wrotham Park, 4 June 1991 lot 120.

Strikingly plain in decoration, the façade is sparsely decorated with round paterae engraved with flowers and a beaded border frames the opening.
