A fine and large French Louis XV Rococo fireplace in a beautifully veined arabescato marble. The Serpentine shelf sits above the panelled frieze which is centred by a dramatic acanthus cartouche. and c scroll acanthus endblocks sit above the elegant console jambs, raised on plain footblocks.

A grand and imposing Victorian fireplace in dramatic portoro marble, with rare and beautiful Cornish serpentine columns. The fireplace's inverted breakfront shelf looms over an undershelf studded with crisplycarved Cornish serpentine dentils. Under this, the central keystone, ionic capitals and bases are highlighted in dramatic Belgian black marble. The double full columns stand out in serpentine against the bold gold veining of the portoro. The columns are mounted on generous footblocks and frame the arched opening.

A very fine Victorian register grate with a fox hunting theme. The cast iron and brass insert conforms to the style of the Aesthetic movement, with the exception of the rare gilt brass panels, cast in high relief with a horse and rider, a stag, a fox, a retriever and a hound. A rider's crop and a huntsman's horn form part of the decorative scheme. Likely to have been a special commission for a country residence!

This grand chandelier is truly a statement piece, with two tiers of scrolling foliate arms emanating from a foliate baluster stem, strung with glass beads and drops. A fine early nineteenth-century French Empire period duchesse brisée armchair with accompanying footstool. This set is in the original paint with applied gilded highlights. The restrained form embraces the new Empire style that emerged shortly after the Directoire period, with a lozenge decoration on the back, a popular motif reminiscent of the the ancient Egyptian discoveries made after Napoleon conquered the country. Both the chair and the footstool are supported by elegant tapered legs.

French, c.1805.

Later upholstery in good order, a very comfortable chair with overstuffed feather cushions.

A large and grand Victorian arched chimneypiece in white marble with original brass insert. The imposing shelf sits on a stepped undershelf supported by the large arched spandrel jambs, with a beautifully carved bound laurel detail to the opening. This is divided by a very fine foliate keystone. The whole is supported by generous footblocks. The original brass insert is decorated with finely hand chased repoussée work with stylised scrolling foliage, flowers and birds.

English, c.1880.

Please note that the insert is slightly lower than the opening and will need to be raised by the hearth, or the fireplace footblocks can be trimmed.

A very fine and rare Anglo-Indian carved oak box settle in teak, very much based on the form of an Italian cassone. The back features three magnificently carved vignettes depicting an elephant fighting a tiger amongst palm trees, a ship at sea and lastly, a group of noblemen being drawn by oxen in a fine cart. These panels are bordered by a trailing vine decoration. The subjects would suggest a southern Indian, or possibly Ceylonese origin. The sinuous scrolling arms are carved to depict a mythical creature and they frame the box seat with a hinged lid, which has an elaborately pierced front panel.

The blockwork trumeau is centred by an armorial and rests on a large freize carved with floral spandrels in the Tudor Revival style, over cantilevered, moulded jambs. An exceptional giltwood Venetian wall mirror. The fine frame has strapwork cresting, pierced sides and apron, the whole carved with rocaille, c-scrolls and floral flourishes, enclosing the original mercury glass mirror plate, which is surmounted by an etched cartouche plate to the crest, decorated with a woman playing a lyre with a pastoral scene.

A tall oak and Belgian Blue Stone antique chimneypiece in the Renaissance manner. The panelled fluted frieze with central acanthus detail is flanked by pairs of lion mask end blocks and set beneath a generous moulded egg and dart corniced shelf. The whole is supported by deep carved and polished Belgian Blue Stone fluted corbels above tall Ionic columns over moulded and panelled foot blocks. Belgian, mid 19th century.
