    A rare and beautifully engraved set of fifteen prints from the 'Fasti di Napoleone', or Glories of Napoleon, a cycle of frescoes designed and executed by Appiani in the Sala delle Cariatidi in Royal Palace of Milan between 1807-1816. This celebrated set of frescoes no longer survives after being lost to bombing in WW2, but Appiani supervised Giuseppe Longhi's creation of these engravings, so his cycle survives in this carefully rendered set of prints.

    A large and grand Gothic Revival chimneypiece carved from Belgian blue stone. The deeply moulded cornice shelf rests on the monumental frieze, which is carved from one large piece of stone. This is decorated with a crisply rendered central crest and coat of arms, with the motto "ex-fide-fortis" (from faith comes strength), this is flanked by a pair of floral paterae in the form of roses beneath arching tracery and foliate decoration, on a heavily tooled ground. This sits on slender Gothic console jambs, over moulded footblocks.

    Belgian, circa 1890.

    The weight of this fireplace requires careful structural consideration.

Each gilt and ebonised frame is decorated with painted stylised foliage, fruit and flowers in the typically Aesthetic movement style. This table has a beautiful colour and patina, the figured mahogany rectangular top with plain gallery is set over a finely pierced fretwork frieze and spandrels of scrolling acanthus leaf, supported on square legs with block feet, which retain their original brass castors, these are separated by the arching, x-form fretwork stretcher, decorated with further scrolling acanthus leaf decoration, all centred with a single turned finial.
