A fine Victorian harewood and amboyna writing table, on a mahogany carcass. Inlaid with an amboyna wood banded border, inset with birds and foliate decoration, and a single frieze drawer, stamped Edwards & Roberts. This is raised on fluted and ebonised turned legs, terminating in ormolu collars, and united by stretcher of the same form.
English, c.1850.
Notes: Edwards & Roberts were founded in 1845 and were one of the leading cabinet makers of the 19th century. Based in Soho, their Wardour Street factory occupied more than a dozen buildings, where they made fine furniture prized for quality timber and veneers.
