A Gothic Revival golden oak Victorian buffet

A grand, golden oak Gothic Revival buffet attributed to the designer Charles Bevan for C. Hindley and Sons, 19th century London furniture dealers. The mirrored galleried back, topped by pineapple finials, sits above a deep shelf supported on quatrefoil pierced brackets under which is a wide worktop. The triple doors beneath open to reveal a double shelved cupboard and a racked storage area. C. Hindley & Sons, 134, Oxford Street, London is stamped on the back. English, circa 1870.

Notes:
Charles Bevan (1820s-1882) was an English Gothic Revival designer. The patterns of his designs defined him as a master craftsman in the Geometric style. He worked with a number of furniture manufacturers and designers, including Gillows, J. P. Seddon & Hindley & Sons and exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1867.

Charles A Hindley & Son cabinet makers and furniture dealers, were established in 1773 at 31 to 32 Berners Street later moving in 1844 to 134, Oxford Street, London. The firm existed until 1916 when it was absorbed into Marshall and Snelgrove.
