Antique Georgian Fireplace Mantel with Sienna Marble Columns

A VERY TALL AND GRAND PERIOD GEORGIAN CHIMNEYPIECE, carved in white statuary and purple and black veined yellow Sienna marble. Very much in the style of Robert Adam, the high breakfront shelf towers over the inlaid Sienna marble frieze which is festooned over its whole length with rambling high relief carved grape vines complete with leaves and bunches of grapes...signifying that it was installed in a dining room. The frieze is flanked by large, pierced floral Paterae on the endblocks and the whole is supported on very tall tapering Sienna marble columns with the scrolled Ionic capitals in statuary marble. Scottish, late 18th century.

Notes : Very much in the style of a pair to be found in the Saloon at Croome Court, Worcestershire...the interior of which was designed by Robert Adam in the 18th century.
