Stock No: 16322

A fine Jacobean Revival chimneypiece with exceptional stone ingrounds. The oak chimneypiece is beautifully carved, the high shelf with four nude terms dressed with elaborate headpieces carved in high relief, whilst the frieze is carved with Jacobean fretwork in crisp low relief. The tapered jambs support two portrait endblocks and terminate in high footblocks, which rest over the stone. This encloses the spectacular ingrounds, which have a beautiful frieze carved with foliate scrolls and two opposing birds.

English, 19th century.

Provenance: A country house in Cheshire.
