Stock No: 14590

A very large and spectacular 17th century fireback depicting crowned eagles supporting an armorial shield beneath a smaller eagle alighting on the shield. The initial H surmounted by crowns features in each corner (one H is broken). The name of the Marquise de May can be seen in the top border and the fireback is most likely associated with the Coat of Arms of Henri II de Lorraine, Comte de Chaligny, Marquis de Moy (1596-1672)' of the House of Lorraine. French, dated 1624.
