A beautifully ornate Louis XV Rococo fireplace in a very softly veined Carrara marble. The moulded shelf rests on a serpentine frieze, which is centred by a shell motif and scrolling acanthus, and is boldly carved with a cushioned opening. The c-scroll endblocks are also carved with shells and this decorative carving spills over on on to the canted console jambs.
French, mid-19th century.
