PIERRE GOUTHIERE BRONZE SATYRS : A remarkable Louis XVI antique mantle in white Statuary marble with bronze & gilt-bronze adornment. The bronze female satyrs attributed to Pierre Gouthiere (Maitre, 1758) after the model by Jean-Joseph Foucou, each satyress is lion-skin draped, gilded vine leaf crowned, with ivy leaves around the waist & is carrying a cymbal and a tambourine. The frieze with gilt bronze scrolled floral decoration centered by a mask of Bacchus.

Provenance: Removed from 1 Connaught Place, London, headquarter’s of the Schweppes Company previously known as Marble Arch House, built in 1807 as the town house of Princess Caroline of Brunswick, tempestuous wife of the Prince Regent, later George IV. Similar examples in the Royal Closet at Buckingham Palace, The Throne Room at Carlton House and another at present in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection New York and the Hotel Masseran in Paris...See images below..
