9260. A rare Palladian early Georgian chimneypiece in the sculpturally monumental manner of William Chambers 1723-96 , carved in Portland stone, the shelf supported on an ogee florally carved frieze with large egg and dart carved breakfront undershelf detail flanking the plain panelled central plaque, the Dog-Leg jambs supported either side with florally carved scrolled consoles on large plain foot blocks. English,18th century.
Similar to another 18c stone chimneypiece from St. Monica's Priory, Blandford, Dorset, auctioned at The Crown Hotel, Blandford in 1927....And offered by Bath antique dealer Charles Angell in Connoisseur advert in 1934.... See image below.
