8083. IRISH, SILENUS GREEK WINE DEITY : A large Irish late Georgian / early Regency, Neoclassical, antique fireplace in richly carved Statuary marble, the breakfront shelf over a large, intricately carved central plaque depicting Silenus, companion to the Greek wine god Dionysus, attended and teased by a centaur, a young girl and four putti in a pastoral setting with fluted frieze panels either side of Connemara Green inlaid marble endblocks with applied Lion masks.Also on the jambs. Other decoration includes finely carved egg and dart and Vitruvian scrolled carved detail.
PROVENANCE: Kirkdale Manor, Nawton, North Yorkshire.
