KNOWLEDGE IS POWER: One of five Portland Stone Plaques removed from
St Thomas' Hospital, London.
Highly carved with acanthus leaves, a dove and a knights helmet above a large central shield depicting a hand, sheaves of corn and a printing press. At the base is the motto “Knowledge is Power” commonly attributed, in various interpretations, to Sir Francis Bacon.

The Hospital was moved from it's 17th century site in Southwark to new buildings in Lambeth Palace Road across the River Thames from The Houses of Parliament where it was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871.
