A period Louis XV fireplace surround in Pierre de Bourguignon, Burgundy Stone known in French as a Pierre Marbrier because of its hard, marble like character whereby it takes a polish. This one with the serpentine shelf integral with the panelled frieze centred by a delicate shell cartouche flanked either end by kidney shaped angled upper jamb decoration. French, late 17th, early 18th century.
