THE RALEIGH CONNECTION: An unusual and large log grate in the Venetian Renaissance style with ornate wrought iron andirons topped by pierced brass, hinge topped wine bottle holders.The widely splayed interior log basket with rivetted firebars supported on long Billet bars...and an ornamental log roller hung on the front brackets of the etched andirons. Irish circa 1850.
PROVENANCE: Ashley Manor, County Waterford in the Irish Republic, until recently a Convent…The property is the original 15th century preferred comfortable windowed house lived in by Sir Walter Raleigh and is owned by Lord Swarsbrick near the Duke of Devonshire's estate...Lismore castle which was Raleigh's Official residence being 10 miles away.Ensuite with the original fireplace from same provenance, SNo :10837.
