A SMALL AND RARE chimneypiece in the Neo Classical manner delicately carved in white Statuary marble , an unusual feature being the concave shelf and frieze centered by an oval tablet depicting a pastoral scene of a maiden milking a ewe , this flanked on either side by Vitruvian scrolling, over pretty concave moulded , scrolled spandrels. Lion mask endblocks are carved on square end panels supported on panelled jambs carved with descending fruit and floral decoration. Photo before final restoration . Provenance : Genoa .
