  • Antique fireback in Baroque style.

9117. A large and attractive Baroque fireback, the mythological characters in pastoral setting, bordered by strong floral design on the side panels, surmounted by oval finials and grandly flourished floral top, with the date 1653....19th Century.

Dreamtime.....Battle of Leghorn..Dutch Fleet defeats the English , Dutch Admiral dies... Taj Mahal completed ...Oliver Cromwell becomes Lord Protector of Ye English Republic / Commonwealthe.... English Navy whips the Dutch at Gabbard & Texel, etc, etc..33 years later the Glorious , actually bloodless, Revolution yielded great benefit to us ..with a Dutch King Billy on the English throne and Flemish artistic influence..such as this fireback..piquante humane architecture..Spitalfields etc etc never equalled 'cept in A'dam....maybe Schenectady, Mass....and much more. So , 1653 and all that....
