9018. A pair of substantial Renaissance style patinated bronze figural andirons. Identical to the pair in the Venetian stone Chimneypiece in the Salon at the Marquess of Baths seat at Longleat House, see lower image.The female figures with wheatsheaves and sickle are most probably Demeter the Goddess of the Harvest & Plenty and her daughter Persephone the Goddess of the Underworld, Innocence & Spring, supported on urns over attendant African maidens and male attendants below. in the manner of Alessandro Vittoria (1528 – 1608) a leading bronze sculptor from Venice
