11095. A large carved wood armorial coat of arms surmounted by a crowned two headed eagle above a quartered shield with two triple towered castles and rampant lions and above a suspended ram. 19th century.
The Double Headed Eagle originally symbolised the Byzantine Church and Monarchies looking to both East and West and featured in heraldry throughout Europe …notably associated with the Russian, Austrian and Spanish dynasties.
