10338. An ornately carved walnut 'X' framed 'Curule' form child's seat in the Thomas Hope Etruscan / Roman taste with four carved Ramshead arms on cloven hooves. English, early 20th century, a replica of the original design by Thomas Hope in the early 19th century. In the Roman Republic, and later the Empire, the curule seat was the chair upon which senior magistrates or promagistrates owning imperium were entitled to sit, including dictators, masters of the horse, consuls, praetors, censors, and the curule aediles .
