8929. ART NOUVEAU, WILLIAM DAVID McCLELLAN:
An elegant tall Art Nouveau fireplace mantel in Statuary marble. The Italianate influence of the shelf blending into the delightfully subtle Art Nouveau carved detail of the central scroll, the canted undershelf scrolls descending to the understated button scrolls resting on the footblocks.

PROVENANCE : From High Calfide, a large house in Paisley near Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Scotland, demolished in 2006.
Architect: William David McLellan, RIBA, 1872 - 1940 famed for bold interpretation of Art Nouveau variations on the perpendicular Gothic.
Scottish circa 1900.
