9466. A remarkable carved stone Gothic Revival arched chimneypiece with the original handsome brass clock in the overarch.The chimneypiece with high relief carved detail in the manner of A.W.N.Pugin, 1812-1852. ( Image before restoration)
The Clock: The florally engraved brass dial with Roman Numerals and with fusee mechanism, in working order. A fusee is a cone-shaped, grooved pulley used together with a barrel that contains a mainspring and a chain-driven, wire or gut cord operation system. Fusees were used on clocks as well as watches from the early 1500s to the early 1900s.
