AN IMMACULATE LARGE SOPHISTICATED CHIMNEYPIECE in the Italian Renaissance manner in black marble.The substantial moulded shelf breaks back at the ends and is broken by an arched niche containing a scupted circular mask of a Bacchic Maiden , with vine leaves and grapes adorning her hair in, Rosso Antico red marble and a vine leaf and grape swag festooned beneath , under a scrolled central plinth and flanked by Acanthus leaf carved detail over fluted bars interspersed with Pyramid lozenges, supported on splendid fluted columns under plain Tuscan capitals descending to circular bases on square footblocks.Image before final restoration and repolishing.
