ANTIQUE ENGLISH GEORGIAN MARBLE FIREPLACE MANTEL ROBERT ADAM.

9295. A tall elegant late Georgian chimneypiece distinctly in the manner of Robert Adam. The breakfront shelf supported over the Spanish Brocatelle inlaid fluted frieze with large, delicately carved fernleaf brackets over descending grapes on the jambs. The very fine and intricate center tablet shows a large urn with outward facing Sphinx and fruit and drapes carved in high relief...and the endblocks show similar urns / flaming torcheres. English 18th century with reinstated plain marble elements.The subject of the center plaque and the profusion of fruit decoration on the jambs would denote its original placement in a dining room.
