11163. An understated elegant late Georgian English chimneypiece in pure white Statuary with inlaid panels of veined Giallo di Sienna marble. Under the breakfronted shelf is exquisitely carved egg and dart which extends the full length of the frieze and returns, The frieze is centered by a well carved Roman urn with scrolled floral border and Lion heads either side festooned with Bellflower swags, supported on subtly shaped inlaid console jambs.Interesting to see is the way the inlaid Sienna marble panels matched from various sections has been cut and joined irregularly to diminish the visibility of the joins. English late 18th Century.
