A very elegantly proportioned Carrara marble chimneypiece, carved in high relief in the 19th century Palladian Revival style. The breakfronted serpentine shelf over a panelled frieze is centred by a circular medallion showing a Grecian female mask in profile, bordered with palm fronds and floral decoration. The endblocks are adorned with high relief acanthus foliage over graciously scrolled side consoles. French, circa 1830 (photo before restoration, cleaning and polishing).
