1920: BROMSGROVE GUILD EBONY MACASSA PANELLED ROOM : An exotic and impressive Macassa Ebony Panelled room in the Louis XV style with carved and gilded egg & dart cornice and floral decoration.The panelling is almost complete.The pilasters were originally mirrored and bordered with carved giltwood ropetwist trim.
Provenance: The label on one of the panels indicates the room was made by The Bromsgrove Guild , Worcestershire & sent by train to London on 18th July 1867 for installation in 74 Great Stanhope Street, alongside Dorchester House, Park Lane, Mayfair which was demolished in 1929 , to make way for the eponymous Hotel. The Bromsgrove Guild also made the gates for Buckingham Palace. Measurements: 53 running feet of panelling and doors (16m) plus 21 running feet of pilaster bases (6.5m) plus 100 feet of egg & dart cornice (30.5m). Overall height 12.8" (3.86m).
