A LARGE BRONZE OVERDOOR SHOWING A PAIR OF RAMPANT LIONS GUARDING A MOUND OF GOLD.
Sculptor Esmond Burton 1953-55
A large Bronze overdoor from the Bank of England Annexe at One New Change in the City of London to the east of St Pauls Cathedral. One of three originally over the main entrance doors on the New Change side of the building.
The Annexe was bounded by Cheapside to the north, Watling Street to the south, Bread Street to the east, Newgate to the north west and New Change to the west and occupied a sensitive site in that it formed a backdrop to Wrens majestic Roman Baroque St Paul's Cathedral.
