A fine and elegant Italian Carrara Marble antique chimneypiece with a richly embellished undershelf. The recessed frieze has a central panel carved with a reclining Venus, either side of which are two pairs of birds, each pair bearing a garland in their beaks. The endblocks are adorned with large Medusa Masks which set above engaged fluted columns with delicately carved capitals. These rest on five sided pillars and shaped footblocks.
