A cast iron fireback of arched form and scroll-ended cresting above a band of text reading, 'RICHARD LENARD FOUNDER AT BRED FOURNIS'. He was the ironmaster at Brede Furnace in Sussex in the 17th century and is depicted in the centre, wearing a tied smock and surrounded by the tools of his trade with his dog at his side. To the right are images reflecting the domestic life of a founder. In the background is a barrow and a furnace, the whole within a moulded border flanked by the date 1636.
Note: This is a 1974 copy of the original Lenard fireback.
